stupid question - does IF work if you don't do it every day?


I've done lots of reading on IF and it seems that most of the guidance written is targeted at people who work out a lot and are trying to get a certain body type.I have a desk job and simply want an easier (than counting calories) method to lose some weight. Would doing IF (16:8) have any benefit if I only do it 3 or 4 days per week? Or would I be wasting my time (in the sense that I won't realize significant results)?
