So first off, I'm 18, Male, 5'10", 140lbs and am really active as I lift and practice collegiate basketball (hopefully this coming year). My question is how can I set up an effective meal plan that will be healthy and allow me to gain some muscle for basketball since I need to eat more than usual.

1) Should i have a diet where I plan out exactly what I have breakfast, lunch and dinner plus snacks?

2) Should I just say I need this many servings of fruits, of veggies, of protein, etc and get those goals everyday?

3) Should I just eat whatever I feel (all healthy of course but nothing specific) and log it into a calorie counter app?

4) Anything else? How do you setup an efficient meal plan?

Ps. I'm not asking for what to actually eat, but rather how should I set up a consistent meal plan. Thanks in advance advance
