How does muscle building work during a fast?


I've been doing a 20:4 fast for around 2 months now, though I've begun to take Friday's "off" for the past couple of weeks. I started in the gym around a week ago, which I'm beginning to wonder if it's even a go idea since to my knowledge, your body takes muscle before it's starts taking fat since muscle got more protein or something like that.
